I'm going to post this on another site so figured some of you may be interested. Elk calf...just a few days old. The Dept of Fish and Wildlife was still studying the elk and would "roundup", get some data, and tag the calves in the spring. A helicopter w/ some kind of heat sensors would fly around, find some cows, then use the sensors to locate a calf. Then the ground crew would surround the calf and come in closer and closer. If it was a newborn (within 3 days) it would generally lay still until pounced on. If it was a little older it would break and the chase would be on. My wife Shelia got to make an open field solo tackle on one. Anyway here is the pic after all the work was finished. It just laid there and "hid". i318.photobucket.com/albums/mm415/storm1507/030.jpg

Sounds pretty interesting. I take it that they don't have a need for that anymore?

No, they haven't done the tagging for a little while now.

Maybe one of these days I'll see one. I know there has to be a story to go with it.
