Iced!

The winter storm that brought us snow and sleet last week also iced over all favorite wood duck holes at my deer hunting club. I went Wednesday morning and discovered a thin layer of ice in the back of a twenty acre pond that I usually do well in. I broke the ice and threw out the dekes. We saw a couple hundred woodrows but nothing would even come close. So we scouted several ponds after that looking for prospective landing areas but found everything iced. Thursday morning we headed down to a spot on Briar Creek I usually limit out in 5 minutes. We saw tons of birds but nothing even came close enough to knock the safety off. Friday we tried a different tactic, standing on a tree line by the creek to try catch the ducks before they hit the creek. Again we were blanked as we didn't see a bird in range before legal shooting time. I'm going to Phinizy Swamp WMA tomorrow, wish me luck.
