Shot a white tail doe on Monday . It was a yearling coming in at 90 pounds field dressed. Not much meat but my youngest daughter is happy as I gave it to her. Just finished cutting and wrapping it. She's in university and not working and her boyfriend is holding a low paying job, so this will supplement their food cost some. We should have had a bull elk that morning too. My friend shot a rag horn bull but it was a low shoulder shot and didn't knock it down. We made our way to the top of a ridge where we last saw him. Found blood and the direction it went but unfortunately we pushed the elk into two other hunters and they got him. I had the crosshairs on a 5x5 bull later that morning at a 100 yards but the elk were milling around and I couldn't shoot for fear of the bullet passing through the bull and hitting a cow. We saw over 200 elk that morning but with all the other hunters around it was near impossible to get anything going. It sounded like a freakin war zone in that valley . After all the shooting was over one calf elk was killed and a spike horn bull was wounded, which we can't legally shoot. It was sad to see him hobbling along trying to keep up with the herd and not being able to put him down.
