After a 1 1/2 year layoff I am happy to say I am back among the working class. Not exactly what I had in mind, but it's a dang good gig.
Starting Monday, I will be working out of Lafayette, LA, as a Industrial Safety Manager. I spend one week there in training then it's off to a rig in the Gulf of Mexico for 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, 12 hr days minimum. I have no idea what I am or will be doing, it's all new to me. My job description was told to me as such, "Walk around and make sure everyone is in compliance with safety regulations". For the money they are gonna pay me I can do that. Plus, steak and shrimp every night aint a bad incentive.
I have no idea if I will have internet or phone reception so I may not be around for awhile. The two weeks on/off is going to take some getting used to. I will miss my family more than they know. Keep me in your prayers/thoughts as I venture into this new journey.

Good luck and congrats.
I hear those rig guys make really good money.

Update:
I've been in Grand Isle, LA supervising safety for boats being de-contaminated from cleaning up the BP spill. It's gravy. I ride around in a Polaris Ranger and tell people to be carefull. I'm working nights, 6 am to 6 pm. I don't have time to go into all the stuff I've seen but I will say that we are lucky a barrell of oil doesn't cost $1000.
I'll come back later and share some messed-up stories with yall.

Glad you are doing OK.
We spent a week on Grand Isle right before Katrina. They have had it rough down there for awhile.
