Just picked up a Marlin 1895GS in 45/70, wished I'd bought one years ago. Loaded up a 405gr cast bullet over 37gr of imr 4198 and like how it shoots so far. Recoil is a bit heavy but I've had worse. I've got more load development to do but should have it wrung out to hunt with this year.

Heh.....I fired that same rifle several years back with custom loads in it. On of the worst recoils I've ever felt. The guy that had it used it for a pig gun.

That's a GREAT weapon! A buddy has one and shoots those expensive Buffalo Bore hot loads out of it and it'll flat out do some damage! I have an H&R Handi-rifle in 45/70 and love the caliber. It's a swamp gun that is easy to carry and will kill a freight train! ;D
