Monday is the last day of our general big game season , so me and the nephew are headed out for 3 days to try and fill his two white tail antlerless tags. All I have is my bull elk tag and there are elk where we're going, just not a bunch. The nephews tags are only good in the zone we'll be in so here's hoping there will be elk in there.

It was a tough hunt, almost didn't get there. Just as we were leaving home it started to snow, HARD!
The roads turned to ice in a hurry and traffic was stupid. We quit counting the vehicles that hit the ditch in a 30 mile stretch. Finally we were able to turn west off the free way and made better time on a secondary hiway with less traffic. Got out of the snow just about where we were to make camp.
Hunted hard saturday and didn't see a damn thing, lots of tracks in the new snow but with the near full moon I think the game had gone nocturnal.
Sunday was a little better but almost too warm. Caught a doe and fawn feeding on the edge of a pipeline but my nephew took too long to get his $&!# together and she walked into the bush. Ten minutes later another doe and 2 fawns went tearing across the line at about 800 yards. We ran up and cut about half the distance when the doe stepped out and stopped looking at us. Trav was set up on his shooting sticks and was just about to touch the trigger and she took a step and disappeared into the trees and that's all she wrote, never saw a deer after that.
There were elk in the area but all we saw of them were their tracks in the snow.
