This is a real life senario for me.
The fella that owns the easement that I have to drive across to get to my property has been robbed 2 times in the last month. The first time, they had the lock combo at the front gate and took 2 guns from the cabin. The second time, they cut the lock and took all the appliances and hunting gear from the cabin.
I go to our property alone sometimes and if those guys ever decide to head on down the road to see whats there, they could drive right into my camp and startle me. Or drive in while I'm in my bunk.
So, which one would you grab if you knew your life was about to depend on the decision that you make.

I voted for the AK. It's not nearly as accurate as my Mini but most likely, I'd be shooting in the pitch black dark so looking through the sight is not practical. Max range is 75 yards. My AK holds more rounds and I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that the fmj will punch through an engine block or though a car door.
Side note: I also carry my 24/7 OSS in a tac holster on my leg and keep a spare mag with me on the same leg. If it got close and ugly, I would have that too. It has Heine Eights on it so I can see to shoot in the dark. Also, I can lay down massive supressive fire if I had to shoot and move.

AK hands down. If I had one and it came down to it Id prefer it over my AR-15s...

of the 2 mentioned...probably the AK. my prefference, 12 guage, 00buck. i'd rather have my benelli in the moment of truth, but nothing makes a man realize he is treadin water in a DEEP "crap" pool than hearing a 12 guage pump gun rack a fresh round into the tube

well i would go with the min--45 rd mags are easy to find lol 62 mil serplus pinatrates ok but the 62-64 gr sp or tsx would make one heck of a man stoper.
the bigest reason the safty quicker to work on the min. now my perferd setup wold be a 870 first load a 3in deadcotoy t shot 56 pelets flowed by a mag full of number 1 buck. easer to hit with in the dark. but the gun thats aways by the bed a eaa 1o mm loaded with hornday 180 gr full power loads

Blessed be the pessimists, for they carry extra ammunition ...

I'd go AK all the way - heavier round, larger mag capacity.

In that scenario, I'd take the AK. I collected them for decades, and owned about every variant. I now only have my Shuschka (often mistakenly called a Krinkov). I would opt for one of my AR's over that because of familiarity and ease of operation. My AR's are in these calibers: 5.56, 7.62x39, and 5.45x39...see where I'm headed? I have an earned distrust of Mini 14's, tho I do like Rugers. I've seen too many FTFs come from Mini 14's, over the years. It's why they've lost so much of their initital popularity.
