I saw several deer while bow hunting, but just never got the shot I wanted. Maybe deerslayer was right "you just need to take more chances man" ...........I did have my bow at full draw on a buck at 18 yds but would have had to turn to a few inches to my right to get a pin on it. Two does had me pinned down I "thought" Could I have made the move? We will never know now. Early Muzzleloader(two day buck only) Nothing but does. Rifle season(buck only) Bad/windy weather just about every time I went.......hunted hard during this time, but only saw does and one good buck and it was being chased by dogs. Late muzzleloader(buck only except for the last three days) Rain, snow and wind again. I only saw one deer and as I waited for it to come into a old logging road that I always wanted to shoot a deer in........it disappeared! Sooooo........Anybody up for tag soup?

I've got enough Alberta tags left over to make a good hearty soup from the 08 season.Don't regret it though,I had a great season.Actually I did regret not filling the cow elk tag but we were able to fill two out of three cow tags in our group.
This year I decided not to pull the trigger on the first legal buck that crossed my path.Passed on a lot of dink white tails early in the season and didn't see a shooter buck until mid November, actually it was two 150 inch class bucks traveling together.I shot three times and missed both of them.
I got off three shots with the bow on two mule deer bucks and one mule deer doe.I think these were the most exciting hunts for me this year.I played cat and mouse with the bucks for most of September and October, screwed up a few stalks, backed out of a couple to try again later. These are open prairie hunts with very little or no cover to hide your approach. You have to use what's available like swales and dips in the terrain. It would be almost too easy to do with a rifle but until I draw a rifle tag in probably two or three more years I'll keep after them with the bow.
Finally I made my first trip to Saskatchewan, something I've been wanting to do for a long time and ended up shooting a white tail buck there.Definately going back again and hopefully get a chance at a monster buck this place is known for.

I had fun both here and in Illinois. Thats really the main goal anymore. I think Ive killed enough deer in my time... I am still in search of one that will go on the wall though...

I still have a couple of tags. My last few years I have only been able to shoot a late season doe. Luck changed for me this year. I got a good shooter in the middle of the season and only saw one other buck that was not a shooter. I wanted to get rid of some of my turkey tags this Fall but didnt. I guess I'll still have them for the Spring.
Also, I have a red drum tag I would like to blow this Spring.

Just an average season here.
Shot a deer and a coyote with my new bow which was the highlight of the season. Took a basket buck with my rifle. Going on year #3 that I haven't shot anything with my muzzleloader which is concerning.
I still have till the end of Feb, hopefully I can get out a few more times but with the new baby it's kinda difficult.
Oh yeah, and Dalton killed his best buck this year but is disappointed that he only killed one deer.
