Last year I had a nice 9pt at 22yrds and didn't take the shot because the only shot I had was a neck shot. I have been practicing and am confident I can put the arrow right into the white throat patch out to 30 yards. Would you take this shot if it was the only shot presented to you.

Me personally,no.I think that it's a low percentage shot.I've seen 3 neck shots on deer, all by the same guy.One was an instant kill, the other 2 were wounded deer with only one recovered.

I would probably pass on it myself, but a "perfect" shot would drop one.

NO!!! Good decision. The gut-wrenching feel after a bad shot is horrific.

I tried it several years back. 8yds, looking up eating acorns off a low hanging pin oak branch. Was going to shoot it in the throat under its chin and possibly get 1 lung if it penetrated. Damn spring hung up in my thumb release... After I got the spring pushed back in with my truck key ( I have no idea how he didnt see me freaking up in the tree...) he was broadside at 25yds...

From the voice of experience....DON'T
I shot two different deer in the neck in one year, I thought I was Billy Badass with a bow. The first was a small doe, she lived because I saw her two days later with a bloody neck but otherwise no ill effects. She may have died from infection, like TS said, I was sick.
The second was only a few weeks later on a spike. He bedded down right below me for over an hour. I finally talked myself into shooting him in the neck. I plugged him, actually pinning his neck to the ground for a second. He hopped up and ran up the hill with the arrow sticking out both sides of his neck, never to be seen again. You would think that there would have been a ton of blood but there was very little blood on either deer. I watch the spike run off for at least 90 yds. We looked for several hours for each deer and never had the feeling we would find them.
Don't do it.

I agree, not a good shot. With a rifle, its deadly, due to lots of shock. With a bow, you dont get that shock. I did get a deer in the neck one time, purely by accident. It ducked to run, and I hit it right through the spinal cord. Not an intentional shot, but it worked that time. There's too many opportunities for higher percentage shots to take an "ify" shot. I would rather let a deer get away than have to be sick about a poor shot.
