Well, I was waiting for my buddy to send pictures before I posted this, but he seems to be pretty darn slow. I got my turkey the first day out.
We set up in the morning on a spot that my buddy had been watching 8 toms every morning for 2 weeks. We sat a couple hours, and never seen a feather. We decided to go try by my parents house.
Shortly after getting set up, I let out a few calls. My buddy taps me and says "look at the railroad tracks". There was a tom with his beard dragging as he walked. We tried calling him, but all he would do was pick up his head and look at our decoys. He didnt want to leave the ladies he was with. A little while later, we spotted a second tom. This one was about 100 yards out, but he just wouldnt cross the creek that was between us. We tried for 4 hours, and we were about to hang it up. I leaned forward to grab my backpack, and spotted 4 jakes coming in from the other direction. I told Brian to get ready. The jakes came in to the decoys, and were starting to get frisky with the decoys. Brian had his gun up, and about to shoot, and I spotted 2 toms coming up the fencerow. I told him to hold off, and wait for a tom. Both toms came into the decoys, and knocked the jake decoy over. Both stood there wondering what was wrong with the decoy. Brian picked out the big tom, and shot him. I took a bead on the second tom, and dropped him right there. It was a great hunt.
My bird was 17 1/2 pounds, 9" beard, with 1" spurs. His was also 17 1/2 pounds, but had a 10" beard, and 1" spurs. Both birds went in to the smoker. That was some of the best tasting wild turkey I ever had. I'll post up some pics when he figures out whats wrong with his camera, and sends me the pics.
