Before the hurricanes came through, several of us fellas on the club harrowed up a dead end road to make a food plot. After the hurricanes, I went to the road to check on the plot & found several trees had fallen across the road. When I had more time, I walked in to see how the plot was doing (I wasn't able to help when the other guys said they would plant).To my horror, there was nothing planted. Just bare dirt. To my amazement, there were deer tracks all over the bare dirt.
The next week (short on cash & time), I bought a large bag of rye grass seed (the kind folks plant in their yard in winter around here) & broadcast spread it on the plot.
I have been checking it & hunting it regular. I am still seeing plenty of sign that it is being used. I have also seen several deer (including one I killed November 11th).
I went back today to add fertilizer & dolemite (lime). Still plenty of fresh tracks are on the plot.
With all the high dollar food plot seed out there, I am doing great over a food plot that I have put less than $25 into.
Go figure.
