Here is a copy of a letter I sent out to a few close friends. I'd like to extend the offer to my friends here, too. Anyone that would like to come along is sure welcome. This year, I only had me and 2 others hunt. I'd love to have a bigger group in 2005.
Ok, guys,
Here it is. We've been talking about it for a while. Now it's time to book the 2nd Annual boar hunt.
Looks like the tentative dates for the pig hunt is January 21-23, 2005 at ( www.boarcreek.com ) Boar Creek Ranch in Cayuga, Tx. Cayuga is about 90 miles South East of the Dallas area and will just be a short drive for us.
The cost is $345 per hunter and WILL require a $100 deposit which I will need from each hunter that commits NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 25, 2004. Boar Creek books up fast and months in advance so we need to act quick on this. Upon arrival to Boar Creek Ranch, the balance will be due and they only take cash or money orders so prepare to do banking prior to arrival.
The $345 includes all meals and lodging for that weekend. For a nominal fee, you may shoot as many animals as you like to include cougars, bobcats, goats, etc. You will need to bring your own beer and also be prepared to help out whoever your driver is with gas. Check in time at Boar Creek is 12:00 on Friday SHARP. They do breifings at 2:00 and start getting hunters in their stands at 3:00. Boar Creek will charge you $25 to skin and quarter your hog. If you want it processed and vacuum packed like you would get it from a butcher, add $75 to that. Cash, of course. You will bring home more meat than you can eat in 6 months. BTW, Boar Creek has a 100% opportunity ratio and a 98% kill ratio with a scoped rifle.
It will be JANUARY! You will need to pack accordingly. IT WILL BE COLD!! I might also suggest that you bring some sort of rain gear. Just in case. I will send a complete list of items that every commited hunter will need to consider bringing at a later date.
Be advised that there is an element of danger when hunting wild boar. These are NOT feral hogs. Tree climbing skills will need to be honed. It is not uncommon to sit around the fire and drink beer until 11:00 at night and then go out to spot and stalk hunt pigs with Nick Frame who is the owner of the property. It can be very dangerous.
When considering rifle and round selection, you will need a rifle that is at least .30 caliber in diameter and a bullet weight of at least 150 grains. These are Boar Creek's rules, not mine. You may also hunt with a bow, if you like, and you must have a bow with a draw weight of no less than 50 pounds and no mechanical broadheads. Again, their rules, not mine.
Guys, this is a fantastic hunt at a fantastic price. I encourage each of you to check out the web site and I hope that all who get this email are able to make it. You have more than enough time to make the needed arrangements with your work.
Please reply to this email if you are interested in making this hunt and I look forward to hunting with you all.
Thanks guys!
