I've read several tips where people leave anything from sweaty rags, to dummies dressed in their hunting clothes, or even a bug spray soaked cloth on their stand to get whatever animal they are hunting to 'get used' to their scent. What do you think?

I've never tried it because I don't think it would work. I am curious to hear if anyone has tried this though. You never know about animals it may just work. I did used to leave a cardboard silouhette (-2sp) in deer hut I hunted years ago.

I have no opinion. It's just one of those things that seems so crazy that it actually could work.

I have never tried that, but I have hunted in a box stand about 100' behind a friends house over looking a pasture and killed deer while he was grilling. So I wont say it wont work.

I don't know that just doing that would desensitize them to humans. Personally, I think it would take repeated contact with people before they get used to being around us. The deer I hunt grow up around ranchers feeding cows, dogs, people going about their lives, the guns at Ft Hood, etc...they're not near as keen to the danger as deer that never see people.
If I shoot one out of a group (rifle), the others will usually look around and go back to feeding until I get out of the blind to go get my deer. I can walk out of the house and get in the truck with deer in the pasture looking at me (100 - 150 yds) and they don't always flag & run.
The good side of it is that the deer don't spook as easy as the deer that a lot of you hunt. The bad side is that it takes a lot of the challenge out of it. I'm loud, I'm restless in the blind, and I smell like a beerdrinking dog owner and it's unusual if I go a day without seeing deer.
