1. Have an Anti-Virus softwear installed and updated. I use AVG from www.grisoft.com It is free and plus they update more regularly than Norton or McAfee. 2. A firewall can be a handy thing. XP comes with one and ZoneAlarm can be had for free. 3. Get and use a spywear remover. Spybot can be found at www.safer-networking.org/ Ad-aware is at www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/ I use ad-aware myself. Removing spyware will speed up your PC since everytime you are online this junk is attempting to "phone home". 4. Clean out your Windows Temp files. This stuff is temporary but Windows never cleans it out. Nothing you delete here is going to cause any harm but I can not count the problems I have fixxed doing this. 5. Control what programs launch on start up. With 98 you do this by clicking start then run and type in msconfig click on the startup tab and get rid of all the unecessary stuff. By not having these programs running when not needed your machine will be faster.

I've had AVG for some time and I'm happy with it, especially the price. I just downloaded AdAware last night. It found 83 "spies" on my machine. Hopefully that will speed it up.
Thanks for the tip.
