I dont know how they hunt, but I love an Irish Setter. We have had 3 of them in the past just for pets.

Don't think I could pin it down to just one.I like most hunting breeds for upland. For the pointing breeds I really like English Setters. For flushing dogs I like English Spinger Spanials, but there's alot of room in my heart for a big square headed, otter tailed Labrador.

German Shorthair Pointer of course! These dogs were bred to be a pointer, retriever, and family pet. I have used mine for quail and ducks and with the exception of Max, my last GSP, I would put a GSP up against a lab for duck hunting any day. Of course I have a two year old lab right now that I'm in love with. She is turning into a great retriever that quivers all over as soon as I raise the shotgun. I can't wait to see how she does this year on the wood ducks in the swamp.

It all depends what you hunt and how you hunt. If you ask 10 bird hunters you will probably have 10 different answers to your question. I have a lab that is a great pheasant dog, but I also really like hunting with my buddies english setter. It all depends in what you want.
