The truck is loaded with everything short of the cooler, dog, kennel, and guns. I'm out of here early today and heading to Childress tonight for tomorrow's opener. Dove season runs until sundown 10/30, so I've got a chance for the mixed bag.
The quail forecast for the area we're hunting is the best in years and Belle knows something big is coming. I can't wait to see how she's improved since last season. I could see a difference in the dove field, but I'm looking for good things on her pointing and holding birds. She locked up on a sparrow the other weekend in mid-stride. Even had one back foot in the air and she held it for minutes.
Forecast - Clear days, 40* in the mornings and 70* in the afternoons. It could be cooler to help keep the rattlers inactive, but that's about the only thing I think I'd change about this weekend.

Cool trip. Belle started slowly on Saturday morning but started pointing singles by late morning. She pointed one for my dad and he wasn't even paying attention, so the bird flushed and he missed. She pointed a covey yesterday morning in classic form. They held pretty well and she held point until they flushed. I'd like to get her steady to shot, but I haven't yet. I dropped one out of the covey and she retrieved it to hand.
The birds were awesome. We bumped 5 coveys on Saturday that probably had 25 - 30 birds each.

Ya gotta love it when the dog gives you the "CLASSIC" point.Sounds like you're into the quail for sure, now quit bumping them covey's and get into some shootin .
