First Waco Trip of the Season

We'll be heading to Waco on the 9th of September to do our first weekend hunt of the season.
Last year we fared well in the fields we hunted. I hope we have simular results this time.

Good luck down there. Where around Waco are you going to be ?

I'm heading for San Angelo on Thursday and then Gatesville on Sunday. 5 days of hunting and I can't wait. We've got 3 afternoon hunts in Angelo that are tough shooting but usually pretty good and I've got a hunt lined up in Gatesville at a guy's place where we limited out easily last year.

It's my favorite time of the year and I leave in 48 hours.

We'll actually be South of Waco close to Marlin, Texas.
My pal's property lines the banks of the Brazos river. We hunt the morning and go to the river and shoot gar and turtles in the afternoon (one of the reasons I bought that AK-47) and then go do the evening hunt. We pitch the tent on the river bank and, of course, eat like kings and stay up most of the night take bets on plink shots with the 10/22s.

Thanks - but for the sake of my marriage, I'd better not. I've got 5 days starting Thursday and then 4 days later this month for the south zone opener. On top of the weekends that I'll be hunting locally both afternoons.

For 6 months of the year, my wife is a bird hunter's widow but she takes it pretty well...I painted rooms and put in flowerbeds all spring to earn the time off.

We oughta hook up at West Krum or Hickory Creek. And did you see all the type II places in Hunt County this year? There ain't a limit of birds in the whole county and there are at least 6 places to go shoot at 'em.

We're off in the morning. We wanted to stay over night but it looks like we'll be back before dark.

We didn't do so well.
We got 10 between the 2 of us.
They just were not flying like I wish they would have. We didn't miss many though. I didn't even shoot a whole box.
