My season opens in 60 days!!!
I'm already stoked about it. The birds don't look as fat as they have been in the past 2 years but that's ok......there seem to be more than plenty of them.

64 days for me bro. We have a good field on our club now. We have standing winter wheat plus two harrowed places where we have been dumping wheat. We planted the brown top millet three weeks ago and fertlized this past weekend. I have been working with Sarah on clays lately and she wants to go dove hunting iwth me this year. Now all I have to do keep the dog in shape.

Oh yeah! Sept 1 oughta be a national holiday. Dove season + quail season = six months of chasing birds.
Dog & I have started the preseason training. We've been walking the neighborhood in the evenings to get her some more exercise and expose her to the heat. It's also helping her with heel & whoa. She saw a rabbit the other day and locked up so hard I could've knocked her over with a finger.
It's cool the way that the breeding is coming out and making up for the rookie at the other end of the lead.

Can do. I went to Matador & Chaparral last year. Not bad hunting but it rained every once in a while back then too.

Hardly any at Chaparral and I was suprised by that. There were some at Matador but I wouldn't drive out there for the number that I saw. My brother hunted it when he was working in Amarillo a few years ago and said they shot a lot of dove. They've probably moved out by the time quail season comes in.
Looks like it'd be an easy daytrip for your weekends in Lubbock.

That's as of 7/6/05, 8:23:04 and the counter just runs to midnight of 9/1. Doesn't take into account that I don't sleep that night and those last 5-1/2 to 6 hours until legal shooting light are the longest of the year. I used to think Christmas was slow in getting here.

LOL........
We cleaned house South of Waco last season. I wonder if there is any type 2 in that area. I'd look if I still had my book.

There is Type II land around Lake Whitney (Corps of Engineers, I think) but I've never hunted it. It's also open to deer & hogs & quail but there arent any quail around there. There used to be Type II just north of Gatesville but the guy quit leasing it to the state.

Meeting my dad and brothers in San Angelo opening day afternoon to try to help with the kamikaze whitewing population. We hunt a bowl-shaped little valley with LOTS of mesquite and a tank at the bottom of it. They start pretty much at 6:00 pm and come over in formation and they drop from about 40 ft to about 4 ft off the ground as soon as the first shot goes off.
I see whitewings all the time in South Tx but I've never see them fly like they do in San Angelo. The morning hunt is a complete waste of time there.

I think I may look for something West of here in the Vernon area and spend the night in my truck on the 31st and hunt the first and second before the weekenders get out and try to shoot me.

I didn't make to one shot last year because of the store. My club had/has a feild but all the shoots were afternoon shoots following a club workday. I could make a morning shoot and still open at 10:00AM but noooo they didn't care if the club secretary could go or not.
