Anyone know anything about them? They look like they might make a pretty good birddog. A guy in Oklahoma and I are playing phone tag to talk about a puppy. I'm half nervous about what he'll want for a dog.
Smaller dogs, about 35 or so lbs but they're supposed to be smart and biddable with a good nose on them. I need a smaller dog that'll work well as a family dog. Little Go needs a puppy. She's still really missing Tres and it's been almost two years.
I thought about English Setters and I realy like them, but I'm afraid I don't have enough yard or a setter-proof fence.

I hunted Brittanys until I got hooked on GSP's. The French Britt's are similar in demeanor to the standard Britt's. That dog should do what you have in mind bro. They are beautiful dogs. You'll have to put up some pics if you get one.

What's the difference between the French & the regular Brittanys other than maybe an annoying accent? ;D
Seriously, do you know of any differences and what a person might expect to pay for one or the other?

French Britt's will probably be a little higher as they as easy to come by. At least around here they aren't easy to find. In fact I've never seen one at all. The last Brittany I bought I paid $350 for. So I guess you might be looking at more than that.

The main diff is in coloration of the coat. The French Britt has a much darker coat. They're not real common here,I've seen a few at field trials. The Brittany Spanial is a very popular dog here though and there are pointing dog clubs devoted to them only.
My Dad has two Britts and my brother had one. They are awesome hunters.Their only drawback to me is that they're too hyper when not in the field.

I'm hearing that they might be a little hyper. Wondering if it's in the breeding or if it can be trained out of them.
Good estimate on the pups there, SH. I found one guy in Thibideaux LA that sells his pups for $300 and I got an email from a guy near Oklahoma City that has an orange & white Brittany for $350. Most everyone else sells for $450 - $500.
I didn't hear back from my first guy yet. He was really talking up the "French" Brittany so I'm thinking he'll want $700 or so.
BTW, like Blue said the French Brittanys are different in color and smaller than standard Brittanys and are generally about $200 more. All differences I think I can live with.

Big snag...wife found out that I was thinking about dropping $300+ for a dog. I told her that bleepin' poodles cost that much or more...Houston, we have a problem.
I could throw the "rat hole" cash in there & knock about $150 off of it but I think it's better to keep the reserve fund a secret.
There goes that pup. I'll be doing good to find another for less than $400, and this one's within driving distance to boot.

Look for a French Brittany club on the web. Theymight have a rescue dog page. Or look for French Brittany rescue page on the web. I belong to The GSP Directory and we have a rescue dog page. They even email me when there is one available that is about to be put down in case I can help rescue the dog.
You might not be able to get one that is trained to hunt that way but you can at least get one that you can use to sire a litter for pick of litter or a mama dog to have a litter for you.

I think we've gotten around the snag. Looks like it'll cost me my $150 rainy day stash o' cash, but it'll be worth it.
I sent the deposit today and I took Friday afternoon off to go get her. She's much closer to Tulsa than OKC. About 4 hours each way, but who wouldn't drive that for a new buddy?
I'll try to get pics up as soon as I can. Y'all think nice things so she'll still be there when my deposit gets there. I emailed the people today to tell them that it's on the way.
The name game starts now. Maybe I'll post for suggestions. Dang, I'm fired up!

french brits are a littel smaller and are normally tri-colored. americans are larger, and either orange and white or liver and white. you might check gundogmag.com to see about breeders and info. i could be conned into photo copying a couple articles and sending to you of course the french are rude, have a body odor, hate americans, and are gut-less cowards ;D

Some FRench britts are tri, but they are a little more beefier. We have raised them for 8 yrs. They have more head sense than the american and can hold out longer in the field . My male he is 19in at the shoulder and 45lbs. The brittany is a great family dog and house dog. We have raised our son w/ shaft. They are one of the more calmer bird dogs. although they will depand your attentition.
