Went duck hunting with a buddy yesterday for the lack of better things to do.We didn't expect much and figured we get a couple by jump shooting some puddles.
Wind was howling like a banshee all day and I hate wind.Anywho we finally spot a huge flock of mallards trying to set down in a flooded hay field. We plan a stalk and go for it.15 minutes later we get to within 20 yards of about 50 ducks and they're nervous and finally flush.I knock down a big greenhead with my first shot and cripple another with the second barrel,my freind kills 2 with both his shots. We were hoping the ducks would circle and fly by giving us some good pass shooting but it was not to be.
We drove around a bit and finally got permission to shoot on a large slough on Hutterite land.We settled in for the long wait before the ducks would start headed out to feed.Got some sporadic pass shooting on restless ducks, but the best shooting came right at sunset.Ducks were in the sky in all directions. There were mallards, canvas backs, redheads, pintails, gadwall, shovelers and teal. After the smoke cleared we had killed 17 ducks,I got my first double with a single shot on two shovelers. We thought it was going to get better when we heard the canadas honking and headed our way but we lost legal light and didn't get a shot at them.

Very nice......I have to wait until Nov. 4th to hunt waterfowl.
I think they shortened the season a bit too.

Sounds like a pretty good day afield.
