Early goose season opened for us this past Saturday so I got the boat set up Monday when I got back form a very poor dove shoot. I headed out Tuesday morning to my favorite spot on Clarks Hill Lake fully belieing I would have a limit and be home by 10:00 AM. I was at an island with the decoys out and my blind set up at 6:45 AM. I did not see a thing until 8:30. I saw a big group across the lake that I could get to respond to my calling and that was it. After not seeing or hearing anything by 10:00AM I loaded the dog and the dekes and headed for the landing. On my way back to the ramp I saw four different groups in the air. I guess didn't wait long enough.

I noticed Saturday and Monday that the birds would not fly until 9:30 or later. I sat up in the same spot both days and saw well over 100 geese in 7 different flocks

The honkers are just starting to group up here but it's too early and too hot to go after em.We just need a couple days of real crappy weather to get em moving.

How long is early season there? We have an early season in September that now runs 20-23 days. It used to be 10 days when it first started.
