Going out this evening on the river to shoot some canadas and mallards.Got a call from a landowner we know and he said they were rafting up on the flats below his place. It's the same place we were bow hunting earlier in the season.Gonna be cold as we have to don waders and wade a side channel to get to the tip of the island and there's lots of ice floating down stream.

There are still ducks and geese up there? I guess we'll only be shooting local ducks for the next few weeks. Wear 'em out bro.

Man we did good and would have done better if it weren't for pi$$ poor shooting. We killed a limit of mallards but there weren't many geese and we only had two small flocks come in.One flock had thier wings cupped and were gliding in,just as they were in range they musta seen something they didn't like and veered away,no shots .The second flock came in like the first and this time we got to shoot. We were both using S/S 12ga's with #2 shot.We emptied both barrels on them and not a single goose fell .I thought I musta loaded shells with no shot in them,I couldn't believe those geese didn't fold up and hit the ground.Oh well, next weekend. SH,the migratory birds stay here year round as long as the stubble fields are kept open by the wind so they can feed. They stay on the Bow River which is open all the time except in really cold weather. Every night when coming home from work I see thousands of ducks feeding on the stubble fields just inside the city limits.Man I wish we could hunt those fields.

You had a better day than we did. I went this evening and we called 3 of about 70 woodies we saw flying up the creek to roost. We only shot one of them down.
I didn't realize that some stayed there year round. Y'all are bogarting them ducks and geese and you need to turn 'em loose. ;D
