Dan Rather will resign as top anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News after 24 years of service, effective Spring 2005. The man who replaced Walter Cronkite is considered one of America's most influential journalists. Rather's subdued southern twang was a familiar and steady tone to millions as he reported on major global events. His coverage spanned natural disasters, the Bosnian conflict, the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, a personal interview with Saddam Hussein, the civil rights movement and breaking news of the death of President John F. Kennedy. Rather, 73 years old, has most recently, and notoriously, been embroiled in a scandal over a report questioning President 's National Guard service record during the Vietnam War--based on allegedly forged documents. While CBS has not named a replacement, Rather's departure could give it an opportunity to boost the ratings of CBS Evening News, now third behind ABC & NBC. Rather will remain a correspondent for 60 Minutes.
HA! They're running him out of town and hiding it as a retirement. Rather's subdued southern twang was a familiar and steady tone to millions as he reported on major global events Never noticed this southern twang. Glad he's going.

The people in the place next could hear me laughing when I heard this on the radio today. The press release I heard said he was leaving the nightly news but he was going to continue to work on investigative reporting at 60 Minutes. Investigative? Reporting? Boowahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Can you say forged documents Dan? How about let that be your first investigation there big boy? What a pious a--hole! What f---ing hypocrite! He's an elite socialist pig! He just needs to go away NOW!

I personally think it was a matter of convenience for both parties. CBS just wanted to wait til the turd storm blew over so Dan would come out lookin clean.
What they did was just plain wrong. Rather may have apologized for running that BEYOND BOGUS story but he NEVER apologized to the Bush family for flat out telling a lie. And I do think it was a lie. I think he KNEW it was a less than credable story and ran it to "throw" an election. And that is EXACTLY what he tried to do!! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!! In a statement that he made right after the incident he said, and I loosely quote this....."the letter may have been a fake but we have reason the believe the information in it was correct". WTF kind of BS is that?
I say we line em all up and shoot em!!
