The G8 Summit will be on Sea Island, Georgia starting Tuesday June 8,2004. But Brunswick already looks like a military state. National Guard is everywhere. Blockades & posted signs are all over the place. Some protests have already occured at Wal-Mart & other locations. Many roads are expected to be closed. Green Peace has been spotted on the river near the paper mill. We are expecting protests at the plant. At an employee briefing, we were told to expect between 8000 & 10000 protesters. We were also told that with that many protesters, many will not be 'peaceful'. Our plant security has been quadrupled. We now have to present an employee badge to get in the mill. Also, we were told that even if you have a concealed carry permit, if you are caught with a gunoutside your home, your life will come to a screaching halt for a long time.
This has become a huge inconvenience for most people in this community. Everyone else seems to have more rights in our community. I can't wait till it's over!

No need to let a little triffle like the second amendment interfere with security. Rember the salute is given with the right arm fully extended.

Constitution, what constitution? You're a piece of property with no rights as long as you choose to be an employee of a corperation. I haven't had any rights for a long time. I guess I still have the right to complain?
I wonder what goes on in those G-8 things? See if you can still a ticket and let us know what goes on in there. ;D

It is county, state & federal law enforcement. They are going to harrass anyone caught with a firearm in the county (no matter how legal it is). Sea Island will be closed to all 'non-essential traffic' . I had a federal police officer check my id just to go in the post office today. They keep claiming this G8 will be good for the city, county, & state, but I have yet to figure out how it is going to be anything but a pain for me.

On the subject of suspending the 2nd amendment, my brother-in-law owns land around Crawford and when Pres is in town they strongly discourage hunting on properties adjoining Bush's. Their land isn't close enough to be affected and I'm pretty sure that it isn't actually a law, but it's just a well known understanding There are stories of the secret service showing up to help "celebrate" your harvest and suggest that you suspend your hunting until Air Force 1 is on it's way out.

G8 was a big flop. Less than 200 protesters (were expecting better than 10000). Only 15 arrested for 'peaceful' protest. Military & law enforcement was everywhere. Locals were gone. St Simons was a ghost town. Business owners lost bigtime. No customers. Hastled at work. Needed ID to get in. Checked lunch bag when entering. Stopped for questioning while trying to do my job. The only one who liked the G8 here was the owner of Sea Island. He made millions. I don't think the local government will be so fired up the next time we are asked to host a big government event.
