I was going to dredge up our old debate on this but I couldn't find it. I just wanted to see how Russel feels now that he has lost the IBEW good stuff and is seeing what is out there. The other place just had a big nasty thread where people jumped all over cardeer over Social Security. Besides rampant Hooverism you could tell the people that had walked the hard road and those that hadn't.

Dude I almost hurled when I found out what my wife's emloyer charged for a group policy, $1,000 per month! Give me a friggin break! I'm gonna get a hospitalization policy and pay out of pocket for regular doctors visits. $12,000 a year be serious! We haven't used $12,000 in the last 12 years. That counts having my daughter and me having an operation on my butt.
You know what's sad? Doctors only collect about 40% of what actually bill. What would insurance cost if they collected it all?

I suspect they would collect more of what they billed out if the costs were not so ridicuosly high.
While we may have the best health care system in the world it does little good if you can't afford it. And don't try and tell me about programs either. Try applying for some and see where that goes.
Unfortunatly this problem doesn't seem to get the priority it deserves. Lawmakers get their own special system and we know drug companies and medical associations are some powerfull players when it comes to the lobbying game. In most primitive societies the witch doctor takes care of about anybody and the community takes care of the witch doctor. Maybee not so hot of an analogy but our system is screwed.
I have worked for probably about 25 companies outside of the union and seen practically everything that is available from no insurance to full paid with one outfit. That $1000 a month is high but not astronomical compared to what I have seen.
