Hunt4fun1 asked me if the Moslems were so civilized during the Crusades what happened to them?

First we have to appreciate the time period and that "civilized" in that time period would not apply today. What would be attrocities today were commited by both sides, however most would fall on the Christian side. At that time in history intollerance was rampat.

Going forward from there (roughly 12th century AD). We have many great changes brought forth in Europe. The Rennisance, The Reformation,The Industrial Revolution, and even the Information Revolution.

Many social changes were brought about by the Industrial revolution which was fueled by coal. Some of these were more public education, a need for a more technically educated workers, and a greater importance of science. Several events lead up to the industrial revolution even being possible but probabl the greatest is the decline of the Catholic Church's influence and suppresion of science that opposed dogma.

None of these happened in Asia-Minor or the Mid-East. While yes nations in this area do have and utilize technology, on a whole they are still in the dark ages. Religon still has a major say in almost all activities. It is not so much that their civilizations declined but they remained more or less the same while western civilizations and cultures progressed.

The terrorist elements of the religon I agree 100% should be exterminated. They have by their actions proved they cannot peacefully co-exist with anyone. They will even kill their own people to try an prove their twisted cause.

Take Sadr's bunch for example. Most of his followers are poor pissed off young men. These are always the easiest to warp to some cause. Hitler did it and many others as well. Toss in religon and you have a ready made revolution/terrorist movement.

You deffinitly should not change how you feel because of spin doctors. However I would equate the people here, in the US, that feel all Moslems be exterminated, to saying all Christians should be exterminated because of the KKK.

Also note I have NO USE for spin doctors. I like to research things and draw my on conclusions.

You read the Koran, right? What is an "infidel"? Anyone that is not inline with the teachings of Koran, right?
So, what does the Koran say to do with the infidels?

Interesting you should ask what the Koran says. It is one reason I have come to the conclusion these people are perverting their religon. Christians and Jews are either mentione specifically are reffered to as the people of the book. Infidels seems to be reserved for the Arabs that were worshiping Idols at the time of its writting.

Consider some of these.

2:62 Believers, Jews, Christians and Sabaeans - whoever believes in Allah (Arabic for God) and the Last Day and does what is rigt- shall be rewarded by their Lord; they have nothing to fear and regret.

2:190 Fight for the sake of Allah those that fight against you, but do not attack them first. Allah does not love the aggressors.

But do not fight them within the precincts of the Holy Mosque unless they attack you there; if they attack you put them to the sword.

5:13 But because they (the Israelites) broke their covenant. We laid on them Our curse and hardened their hearts. They have perverted the words of the Scriptures and forgetten much of what they were enjoined. You will find them decieful, except for a few of them. But pardon them and bear with them. Allah loves the righteous.

I couldnt find this one right off. Do not presume to fight for Allah, for he does not need your help.

Naturally there are plenty of contradictions. I don't think i have yet read a religous work that didn't have some. For example there are supposedly rightous Jews and Christians but according to the Koran Jesus was a messenger and not God, which is a total contradiction to Christianity.

I do not think the violent Muslims are the mainstream. I think it appears so since that is what we see in the news. All Arabs are not Muslims and all Muslims are not Arabs. It is currently the worlds second largest religon behind Christianity. Its main areas stretch all the way from eastern Africa to south east Asia (Maylasia is the largest Muslim country).

Sure there are more Muslim terrorists than Christian ones. But if you look at the demographic both groups tend to draw from (poor, bitter, and ignorant) it easy to understand why. Poverty and ignorance are rampant in most Muslim Nations. What wealth is generated is kept in the hands of few. It is comparable to say Europe aproximatly pre 1700s or so.

Just for example look at alSadr's followers and where they come from in Iraq. They come from some of the poorest parts of the country. I also suspect the rest of the clerics aren't loosing much sleep of his band of merry men getting blasted no matter what they say. They think he is an upstart but he has his own little Army.

I'd open the largest can of whoop ass the world has ever seen !! And then ask the UN if they want some. I agree with Bush "you are either with us or against us", and if they say they are not with us then I'd cut all ties to that country- no foriegn aid, no business' allowed to do business with any of their companies, no contracts with them for our government, etc. And if the UN did not like it, I'd tell them they had 48 hrs to board anything smokin' outta here and turn the building into a zoo, parking garage, fertilizer factory, or something else worth a dang. ;D ;D
