Calif. Considers Lowering Voting Age To 14
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Teenagers too young to drive would be able to vote in California under a proposed state constitutional amendment.
The measure would grant 16-year-olds a half vote and 14-year-olds a quarter of a vote in state elections beginning in 2006. State Sen. John Vasconcellos is one of four co-sponsors of the proposal. The 71-year-old Democrat says the Internet, cellphones and multi-channel TV make today's teenagers the best informed ever.
But the idea may never make it out of the statehouse. Republican Assemblyman Ray Haynes says giving teens the right to vote is the "nuttiest" idea he's ever heard. Haynes says the reason kids can't vote is because they can be easily fooled.

I've always felt the driving age, draft age, drinking age & voting age should be the same. Although I feel 18 is a good age, I would be satisfied with 19-21 too. I just feel that a person old enough to die for their country & use one of the most common & powerful weapons (car) should have some say so in their country & get a drink.

A half a vote, a quarter of a vote? That is the stupidest thing I've heard since those cretins in Florida were looking at those ballots with a magnifying glass in the 2000 election. Democrats have no shame, no shame whatsoever.
