Should have been 3.We were hunting mule deer up around my freinds place yesterday.Put the stalk on 6 bucks in a standing barly field at first light.Bud put an arrow into a big 4 point at 50 yards We watched him run about a 100 yards and lay down, the other bucks followed him.Marked the spot and went for breakfast and leave the buck so as not to push him.Went back after a couple hours and couldn't find him.Found his bloody bed and tracked him but never found him.An hour later we spot him feeding with the other bucks in a cut canola field, you could see the blood on his side but you'd never know there was anything wrong with him.We couldn't go after him as they were on posted property, strictly enforced.Went back out this morning looking for the two bucks we got last night and saw the same buck out feeding,i think the arrow missed his vitals and will survive.
Anyways, late yesterday we went out again and found three bucks feeding in another cut canola field. One buck was a one antlerd 4 point,if he had had the other side he would have been a nice one.One of the guys decides to go after him and made a 600 yard stalk and shot him at 50 yards. While he's after that buck my freind goes after a big 4 point in the same field but in the other end.Meanwhile the farmer is out picking up his crop with two combines.I stay back at the truck and am watching both guys do their respective stalks from a high point.I watch the first guy shoot his buck and the buck goes screaming across the stubble to the north and makes it to a line of carrigana bush.Right after that another buck does the same thing but is running all over the place like he doesn't know what to do,this is my freinds buck.I didn't see him shoot but can tell by the way he's running that he's in trouble. This buck makes it across a secondary hiway and into a heavy shelter belt.By now we're losing light fast.We looked for both those bucks till 10 oclock last night and couldn't find either one.Got up at 6 this morning and went back out.Found the 4 point dead in the shelter belt under a dead poplar trunk. It took us another two hours to find the one antlered buck.He had made it to a standing oat field and died there. Two coyotes had found him but hadn't ruined anything. We think the coyotes had just found it.
I hate to say but no pics of these deer,we were more concerned in finding them and nobody took along a camera.
Monday I'm going out after work and see if I can tag a buck.We saw over 15 bucks yesterday.
