After 2 years of no success bowhunting, I finally put an end to my 2 year streak. I went out Friday after work, and hung my stand on a well used trail. Saturday, I got out to my stand at about 3:30pm, and got settled in. I am sitting in a maple tree, about 8" diameter, and all hardwoods around me. All the leaves are off the tree, and I stick out like a sore thumb. I sat, seeing nothing until I hear something behind me at 5:20. I turned my head, and I could see a big deer butt about 60 yards out. I knew I was gonna have to be ready for the shot ahead of time, so I brought my bow up, and waited. She got to about 35 yards, I got the bow 1/2 drawn, and she spots me. She stared so long, I thought my arm was going to fall off. She turned her head to look at another deer, and I brought my bow back up, and drew at the same time. She walked to 15 yards and stopped, slightly quartered to me. I let the arrow go, and I hit right where I wanted to. I hit just ahead of the shoulder. The deer turn and ran 30 yards, and I watched her pile up. This was quite possibly the easiest bloodtrail I have ever been on. The trail was 8 feet wide and 6 feet high. Everything was red.
The arrow went in and took out both lungs, and the heart. She dressed at 150 pounds. I go back to work tomorrow, so I wont get to hunt a few days, but I'll be ready for Saturday again.
