My brother-in-law has 10 acres between Tallahassee and Monticello was telling me about a buck he had seen going into an old grain pit that is over grown on his property. Said he had seen it 3 or 4 times and that it was a really nice buck. I did some looking around a figured the buck was bedding in this old grain pit that is about 100yrds long and 30yrds wide. The next morning I took my climbing stand into the pit got set up about 11/2 hrs before daylight and sure enough about 45 minutes after setting up I hear movement and can see a deer moving about 50 yrds toward the other end of the pit but can't tell anything about it due to darkness. Well right after daylight I hear movement to my left and turn and see the biggest buck I have ever seen while hunting coming straight at me. At 30 yrds I come to full draw but have to wait because he is faceing me straight on. At 15yrds he turns broadside and I sent the arrow on its way. The buck took about 3 jumps and starts walking away and I knew I had missed completly . I waited 2 hours but he never came back. I climbed down found my arrow and no hair blood or anything. How does someone who has killed probably 20 deer and at least that many hogs with a bow miss the easiest shot of his life? By the way the buck was a 12pt with about 17in inside spread and I'm guessing probably weighed 225lbs or so. My brother-in-law called a little while ago and said he saw the buck going back into the grain pit this morning so maybe I'll get another crack at him.
