YUP... I haven't been in a week and a half as I had company for turkey day. The gun slingers are at it now. I'll probably whack it hard starting before Xmas, take a break at Xmas and then whack it hard till the end of January. I'm mostly watching them walk by right now.

Still hunting with the bow in the mornings and the rifle in the evenings. Gonna try and stick a pig tommorro afternoon since deer season is closed here for 2 weeks. Heading to Ga. Thursday and hope to stick a big buck, they were really starting to get serious in the pre-rut when I was there 3 weeks ago.

Gulfcoast Hunter:.... The rut in Georgia should be over by now. It usually happens around the second week in November. Second rut should kick in in another week or so but it isn't like the primary. Where in Georgia do you go? I used to live in Americus and belonged to 3 clubs in Stewart, Schly and Webster Counties plus had free land to hunt in Sumter.

When I lived there everyone who took their buck hunting seriously always reserved the second week in November for vacation time so they could be in the woods when the bucks were chasing. The locals swore that the 14th was the best day in the whole deer season. We all know it won't be the same day... but it always seemed to be close.

guys, I've never lived in Georgia, but what I've always heard, read in huntin magazines, seen on tv etc, is that the further south you go, the later the rut. I live in south Ar and the peak here has always been around the 15th of november, and Georgia is a lot further south than Ar. that's just what I've always thought, don't know that for a fact.

The bummer about hunting late season is they're all herded up. Our 3 week firearm season ended, we had a week with no guns going off. Now they open a 2 week muzzleloader season. The deer bunch up and become hard to bow hunt. I was bowhunting Sat and Monday. Monday Len was doing some walking around with his muzzleloader. He ran a herd by me just out of range. I'm not sure of how many there were... but it was at least 30. Now try to draw with 30 sets of eyes looking around. It's feast or famine. You see none or too many. I had seen 7 deer before that out of range in a bunch going in a different direction. I've been in the same woods about 4 or 5 times with the bow in the last 2 weeks and drawn blanks in the stands.

true raktraker, a few years ago I was bowhuntin the first week of Jan, and shot what I thought was a doe. after trackin it down, I saw it was a buck that had lost it's horns. made me sick! I knew the deer's forehead looked whitish, but didn't know it was a buck till I got to it. that's one way to tell if it's a buck that's lost it's horns, it'll have a whitish lookin forehead.. I guess when they shed their horns, they rub bushes and stuff there where their horns were. I imagine it itches.
