he's a 6 pt. I've been huntin over a couple of scrapes. one secondary, and the other a primary scrape. he's been pawin it out, and peein init ever night. I hunted that stand several mornins, and didn't seen nothin. hunted it a couple of evenins, and 2 midday, and never saw a deer. yesterday a cold front moved through, and I knew it would be a good time to catch him checkin his scrapes.
I got on my stand at 3:15 yesterday evenin,at 4:00 I saw him ease out of the thicket to my left. there are 3 trails out in front of my stand, one at 15yds, one at 25yds, and one at 35yds. wouldn't you know it, he steped out on the 35yd trail. he gave me several chances at a broadside shot, but I hadn't practiced but a few times at that distance. I decided not to chance the shot, I've already lost one buck this year. I figured he would come a little closer, he went back in the thicket and sure nuf I looked to my left where I had a nice shootin lane, and he stuck his head and only part of his neck out. he would't come all the way out of that thicket. finally, after feedin around in there for about 30 minutes, he decided to leave. I heard him walkin away further back into the thicket. I waited about 10 minutes, and bleated with my primos can, and grunted lightly with my grunt tube, but he'd have no part of it. I'm goin back either this evenin or tomorrow evenin, I may have to take my climber in there and set it up a little further to the left of my strap on, so I can shoot through the middle of the thickit. theres an openin right in the middle of it. I think I'll try it another time or two on my strap on though, I think he'll give me a shot sooner or later. I'm also goin to practice a 35yd shot at my 3d, just in case he comes out in that trail again.
