Went fishing on the Livingstone river yesterday for east slopes cutthroat trout.I've never fished this river before, but you can bet I'll be going back again.
It's a nice freestone river, more like a big creek. The cutties were ravenous and were taking our flies with abandon.I used a golden stonefly pattern all day.The river was up from 2 days of hard rain but still clear. The pools were swept but if you could get a fly down near the bottom you'd get a strike. My best was a 13 incher and was feeling pretty good about that until I talked to a fellow angler I met,and he said he got one 19 inches. We fished about a mile and a half before turning back.I wanted to go further but I just ran out of steam and my feet were pretty rock bruised from wearing crappy waders.Note to self, buy some good wading boots .In my defence,we did spend 4 hours in the morning on Chain Lake in toon boats fishing for rainbows. The wind came up and blew us off the lake.I'm sore from rowing and kicking trying to fight the wind..
We got off the lake and made a tailgate brunch of fried potatos, onions, bacon and eggs and decided to head west over to the continental divide to see how the creeks were after all the rain.Went up over a road, more like a goat trail at a place called Indian Graves.Got over the summit at Savhanna crk and had a large band of bighorn sheep cross the road in front of us,about 35 to 40 ewes and lambs and a few immature rams.Course We didn't have cameras at hands reach so no pics. You'd think after all the years I've lived here I'd learn to keep my camera close .
