Are Pacific salmon and steelhead the same thing? What about coho? I am pretty familiar with trout but missing a little in the salmon family. Someone wanna give the breakdown?

No.A steelhead is a searun rainbow trout. They run to salt water and return to fresh water to spawn ,unlike salmon they don't die after spawning and will return to salt water.
I believe there are 5 species of Pacific salmon. Chinook or king salmon Sockeye, kokanee are a land locked cousin. Pink Coho Chum
I think that's them.Correct me if I'm wrong.I've caught the chinook, sockeye and the coho salmon.

Yes, salmon die after they spawn. Steelhead, on the other hand do not. HOWEVER, in many studies, they have found that only 10% of steelhead will ever return to spawn a second time. In the Great Lakes anyways, the steelhead get pretty beat up during their journey up the rivers. The rocks and logs in the rivers will remove their protective slime from their bodies, making them suseptible to molds, and other germs foreign to their bodies. In the perfect world, the steelhead would have an easy run up the river, not encounter any rough obstacles, and leave the river no worse for wear. I dont know of too many rivers with that kind of situation.

Hey blue are you a northerner like me? And blue has it correct. Steelhead make their run on three year cycles. They are also fighting machines like the Silver salmon.
