Are beagles pretty much the only breed of hound used to run deer? It's not legal here in KY so I'm not very familer with it.

From what ive seen there are a lot of Walkers, Blueticks, and English dogs used too. When I hunted at the Savana RIver Plant there were some dogs that looked like a mix of a Walker and a Beagle. They may have been English dogs, but Im not sure.

deerslayer11 It might have been a mix of half walker and half beagle.Alot of deer hunters are going to that. They say the walker is to fast and the beagle is to slow. And the mix should give them a mid speed dog.Myself I run walkers on deer, but I have run black and tan, redticks, blueticks, redbone and walkers.I have had mix breeds that were good deer dogs to.I just got a plott pup I'm going to try on deer this year.
