do you think Pete Rose's chances are better now to get into the Hall of Fame since he admitted to betting on baseball?
I say who cares if he bet or not? He earned it and needs to be there! I hope he gets in there soon. I think the wait has been long enough.

i personally think he's earned it also....yeah he screwed up bad but he's been banned for this long so it should be looked upon as "time served" and they should reinstate him.

Well now he's admitted to gambling and lying about it all this time. So is he telling the truth about not betting on the Reds to lose? How do we know what to believe? I think he was an awesome player. I never liked him when he was a player because of how cocky he was but there was no denying his ability.
I just don't think there is a place for him in the Hall of Fame. He borke the rules for years and then lied about it when caught. It's no different then denying someone entry into the Hall if they were found to be breaking the rules against steroid use to me. Why can't someone be punished for not playing by the rules? It's like saying as long as Clinton had a good economy it didn't matter what was going on when he was lying in a court of law.

They all screamed for years for him to come forward. They screamed we know, everyone knows... so admit it. So he does and now the same people are crucifying him for lying to them. It was a loose loose situation I guess. I don't think he'll be seeing any Hall of Fame, at least not in HIS lifetime. To me, he should have been there years ago. It's about his on field play. More hits than anyone ever by a long shot. The image of "Mr Hustle diving into a bag first face will live with fans forever. You can be a drug addict, get banned for life a half dozen times and all is forgiven if you say... OH GEE, I have a problem. Give me a break. How many time has Darrell Strawberry and some of the others been banned for life?

for years i was on pete's side. but no more, sure he finally admitted what we all knew, he bet on baseball. but he shows absolutely no remorse and acts like he did nothing wrong. every preseason a person from the major league head office goes to every team, and tells them about gambling, what is allowed, and what isn't. pete even said that he didn't know it was such a big deal. what a FREAKIN LOAD!!! he has spit in the face of the game and has desicrated it even more now. what a coincidence that his book, and his crap story came out the same week as the selection of the new members. just another way to steal attention from those that deserve it. he can be listed in the hall of fame when he is dead. he can go in post humously. his achievements deserve to be noted, but not while he can profit, or see it.

He was a great player, but gambling on games is more than snorting coke after the game. If he bet on games he played in or managed, then he may have influenced the outcome of entire seasons. Too much just to sweep under the rug for me. I think admitting it may have kept him out forever because now he's admitted to lying all these years. I always just thought he was lying, know we all know.

I agree with David, its about his play on the field. Ty Cobb was a notorious drunk, Babe Ruth was a drunk and womanizer and they both made it first ballot. Put him in the hall with the full story but never let him work in baseball again.

no way. ty cobb, the babe, o.j. they may be bad people, but they never did anything to disrespect the integrity of the game while playing. betting on his own sport, is ludicris. he has insight to info that other people doesn't have. what if he takes a beating on the dodgers/padres game, and needs to recover that cash? well he bets a load on the cards to beats the reds, lets a top notch bat have a day off, makes a bad defensive switch, and lets the starter stay in a couple innings too long......BAM payday. shoeless joe jackson never admitted to any wrong doing, he just knew what other players were trying to do, and he was kicked out of baseball. pete is just a sad story that cannot have a happy ending. he was a great player, and a terrible rotten person, and for his sins against baseball, he gets a lifetime ban. the next time this should be opened for discussion, is when his ban is truely lifted....when is life has ended. then we can debate wether or not pete should be in the hall........with a crap-load of ***'s by his name

Wow t-roy! I think our friend has made some very good arguments for why Pete don't belong in there no matter how darn good he was. You tell 'em t-roy.

I guess this is why we all have our opinions. I still think he should be there. He wasn't betting on baseball all of the time. I know of over 4,000 times while he was getting hits and hustling his A$$ off on the bases where he wasn't betting. I don't think betting on baseball is a good thing but if a killer can stay in the hall of fame (O..J) I think a gambler should be able to have the chance to be voted in.

You bring up a good point my friend. I think these inductee's that are found to be scum after their induction should be removed. Why can't we have rules for these high paid a-holes like we have for us low paid a-holes? I can lose my job for getting a DUI or getting caught poaching. Why can't these a-holes lose their livelyhood just like the rest of us working stiffs?

I agree with you on OJ being a killer but that is just our personal opinion. If he was however convicted of that crime I'm sure he would have been removed. By law he is innocent, how ya gonna remove him for being that? Don't confuse this post as support for OJ, hell the only support I have concerning him is a fireing squad. I think someone above said it already, but I don't think Rose will ever be inducted as long as he is alive.
