Or is bad maners to wear your hat in the house? Iwas just watching some of Jim Zumbo outdoors and he was in the kitchen cooking something with his durn cowboy hat on. You'd get kicked out of my mama's kitchen if you even tried to come in there with your hat on. Let alone try cook or, heaven help you, try to sit down at the table.

It was bad manners when I was growing up too. Now if I forget..... it's senility. It just kills me when I'm in some kind of fast food eating joint and some jerk is sitting there munching down food with his hat on.... or worse yet... on backwards. It's not just you .... it's low class redneck inbred bad taste.

I agree. I'm always telling someone to take their hat off in the lunch room. Another one I can't stand is some idiot blowing his nose in a resturant or at the eating table.

Oh man Md you said it on the nose blowing >:(When people do that in the lunchroom I just want to hork one up on their lunch.
As for the hat thing,so what it's a hat,an article of clothing.I find no disrespect for wearing one in the house. But I grew up that way.You come to any ranch here in Alberta and it's not a big deal.

If at home or at someone elses home I ALWAYS remove my hat to eat. However if I'm going out for dinner it stays on.

it really doesn't bother me but it's nice to see guys show respect to others by removing them. i've done it a couple times after huntin' but there's no way i'd remove it cause of my hat hair...i'd leave first..lol.

It's just good old fashion southern manners for a "gentleman" to remove his hat when entering a building. I know a lot has changed in society, but I am teaching my son to follow this rule. I am also teaching my kids to say yes ma'am, yes sir, no ma'am, no sir, please & thank you. They also are being taught to address an adult as "mister" or "missruss". To me manners mean a lot. I still say yes ma'am, yes sir, no ma'am, no sir, please & thank you to show respect. I hold the door for a woman. I offer my chair to a woman if all others are full. And I remove my hat when I enter a building.
Note: Southern etiquete does not require a female to remove their hat when entering a building.

No hats for me in the house, but there are all kinda ways that hat wearing has been taken for granted. If you don't have the intelligence to put it on straight, you don't need to be wearing it in the first place
The nose blowing shouldn't even be an issue. Who wants to hear someone clear their nose in the middle of a meal?

It's not just you .... it's low class redneck inbred bad taste. A little on the harsh side considering the subject eh Dave. Some may consider that snobbish yankee mentality. I , for one, dont take my hat off in a fast food place but I do when sitting down at my or anybody elses supper table. Its not unsanitary, Its just one of those "because my grandmother didnt like it and said it was BAD MANNERs" type of things. Maybe the real question should be is WHY is it considered Bad manners to eat in fast food restraunt with a hat on? Or Why should I take off my hat when I walk in my house? I believe all kids should address audults with Yes,No Mam or sir but I know not all do. And Im certainly not going to call them inbreds or Jerks for not having certain manners that really have no effect on the people around them. Im going to lunch now...................................................................with my hat on.
