Hell I barely got room for a window unit letalone a fireplace. I thought you were gonna say something about the chiminey sweep birds...

there is a synthetic log (Lowes or Home Depot) that cleans the chimney. Causes the soot to fall back down into the fireplace. Check that out.

I have mine cleaned every 2 years. I don't know if I need to or not but I do it to be safe.
