my Black Diamond has a 1 in 28 rate of twist. an experienced black powder guy told me i should be shooting sabots out of this gun. he thinks that the fast rate of twist doesn't work with conicals very well. i am still having accuracy problems with maxi balls at higher powder charges, i got pretty good accuracy with 75 gr of pyrodex. above 100 gr i start getting fliers. my basic problem is that i mainly hunt in a state that doesn't allow sabots, so i am motivated to make a conical shoot out of my gun. what do you guys think?

1:28 for bullets
1:40 for balls

Try a heavy 300 grain power belt with 90 to 100 grains of pyrodex.

I agree with Ben. I havent seen a gun that wont throw a great group with the power belts, and 100 grns of pyrodex.

If I'm reading correctly, the state clubber hunts won't allow sabots or powerbelts. Since balls & conicals are the remaining options, I'd just experiment with powder charge & different brand/weight of projectile. Just remember, conicals & maxi-balls generally won't group as tight as sabots or powerbelts nor have the range.

Try Hornadays FBP 350 grn , I've shot them out of my CVA Kodiak pro with 110 grn of T7 2f groops of 1in at 100yrds
