i have never shot powerbelts, but i am having grouping issues with other bullets. i cant' hunt with sabots in Oregon. so i wonder if powerbelts would be legal? are they considered a conical like the maxi ball?

They wouldn't group for me. I went back to T/C Maxi Hunters.

I use the 245 gr. copper clad hollow points in my .50 cal CVA Wolf. I get three-shot groups of 2 to 2 1/2" @ 75 yards. Where I hunt, 50 yards is a long shot (brush is quite thick). I use 3 sticks of American Pioneer Gold powder. (150 grains) I haven't had need to swab between shots. In my .54 Kodiak Double, I use 120 grains of American Pioneer 3f loose powder, with a copper clad 405 grain Powerbelt. The barrels are regulated to point of aim @ 75 yards, and at 50 yards, I'm hitting dead-on, and about 1/2" apart. Here again, I'm a firm believer that the rifleing twist-rate makes a significant difference in choice of bullet weights. My Wolf is 1 in 28" twist, with 24" length, and my Kodiak is 1 in 24" twist, with 28" length.

I've had a few problems with Power Belts and did some research. A factory rep. told me sometimes the sabot will stick to the bullet after it's fired causing a flyer effect. Pop off the sabot and dab a very small amount of bore butter on the bullet and snap it back together. I tried it and haven't had any problems since.
