I am looking for a shot gun for my girlfriend. I was thinking about a 12 guage youth model of some kind. Just wondering what some of you that have dealt with guns more then i think is a good shotgun for a female?
Thanks Eric

Remington makes a youth model 1100 20ga. I dont know that anyone makes a youth 12? You can always cut the stock.

Hey man.....glad to see you back.
I'd make sure the 12 isn't gonna be too much gun for her. Even if I spend a day in the dove fields I can be a bit sore and bruised. Take her out and let her shoot a box of bird loads out of yours before you make that investment. If you buy her a gun that constantly makes her flinch from anticipated recoil, she'll never be able to hit anything with it.
You might consider a 20 gauge. You can still get shells almost anywhere.....unlike a 28 or 16 gauge. One of my criteria for a gun purchase is that I have to be able to walk into a Walmart and buy shells. (Walmart because they are always open and they are everywhere)
And make sure the length of pull is good for her. That is; make sure the butt stock is not too long.....some youth models may actually be too short for her.
Hope this helps......good luck bro!!

One more thing bro:
You can get 2 3/4 AND 3 inch waterfowl shells as well as 3 inch turkey shells for the 20 gauge......I'm gonna guess that the turkey loads are gonna be important because you live in Florida.

Thanks for the help guys. Im probably going to stick with a 20 guage and she how she likes it. I think a 12 guage might be a little much. What is difference effective wise between a 20 and a 12? For the most part about the same killing power for shoting hogs? roughly? Thanks again

I don't know about slugs, but with buckshot you'd probably be close to the same. Since the manufacturer compensates for the smaller shells by using hotter powder and lighter loads (less # of buckshot) so I doubt you'd see much of a dropoff. I think a standard 20ga field load is 7/8 oz of shot and many clays shooters load 7/8 oz in 12 ga for the lighter recoil.
Hey - if you're on target, you're on target.

I load for both 12 and 20 guage,and I'll put my 1oz. loads of 20 ga. up against a 1oz. load in a 12ga.
