I am considering the 44-40 winchester 18 1/2 barrel . e wants 400 bucks
he also has a H&R 45-70 for 221 bucks..I just like the look of the 44-40 lever action top angled eject so you can mount a scope

The 45/70 is more powerful. Im not sure the 44/40 has enough ass to drop deer?

Its what most of them used back then. It fit in the pistol and the rifle.

well I am getting the 45-70 put the down payment and now waiting for my dealer to get it.. I have heard it's an excellent brush gun and can't wait to try her out..haven't decided on a scope yet...it has iron sights so I definitely want the raits peek through mounts...since I saved on the gun I am gonna get a decent scope for this one...any suggestions in the 150 to 200 dollar range?

I have a Taco World Class on my Browning BLR I think they in that price range. I bought mine used for $30 and it has been great. It only requires minimal adjust from season to season.

my gun dealer called me today and said my rifle is in..I can't wait to get it..just in time for my birthday too here's a pic I went with the log barrel instead of the short one like what is on my 30.06 do you think with the sights that come on this bad boy mounting a scope will be tough..less than fifty yards is my longest shot..nah I gotta have a scope.. it does come with 8 different interchangable sights though he said putting a sling would be no problem..the rounds are about the size of a tube of chap stick lead and all...maybe alittle longer though
