I want one mainly for hogs, but I would also use it sometimes for deer. I got a .30-30 but want more umph. What are good rounds that hold together well on deer, ones that wont tear em up to bad. thanks for all your help. Will

If you are worried about tearin' up meat, forget the 300 win mag. Try a 25-06, 243, 30-30, 308, 270, 30-06... the list goes on and on. Just find a gun that fits well & you can shoot accurately. Shot placement is much more important than bullet size or speed. I personally avoid BIG calibers that tend to make me flinch.

I havent torn up as much meat with my 300mag than I have with my 3006. Then again I had leaned how to shoot deer by the time I got the 300.

Bro, I'd have to say no.
BUT........it is a great round for hogs. I MIGHT use that round on long range mulies but not the whitetails we have here in Texas.
In my opinion, you'd be better off with a .30-06, if you want a gun for both.
