I sold my .45 Colt on Tuesday, so I am in the market for another gun. I want a .223, or .22-250. I am leaning towards the .223 for the cheaper ammo. I like the Encore, for the interchangable barrels, but I also like the H&R single shot rifles. I will have $425 to play with. Any suggestions? Oh, and Im a lefty, if that helps you out any. Come on, help a brother spend his money. ;D ;D

I like my H&R. I havent found what it likes to shoot yet but I like it none the less. The 25-06 was shooting 2" groups at 100 out of the box with absolutely no cleaning. I still aint cleaned it. Been shooting trying to season the barrel. It seems to get better groups each time I take it.
One other thing. The cheap ammo shoots like crap. To get my AR15 to group I had to step up to the $17 a box stuff....Still play with the elcheapo rounds but step up to the good stuff to throw down those 1/2" groups.

deerslayer, what is the twist on your barrel? I have found that the twist matters more on a .223 than any other caliber I have shot. My Styer is 1 n 7 and loves 55gr, but the Colts we have are 1 n 12 and like the 69gr better

As I've said before, I like the New England Firearms Handi Rifle. Like the Encore, there is a large selection of interchangeable barrels. Unlike the Encore, it cost less then $250.

only bad thing about the handi's is that you have to send the action back, to have new barrels fitted. just a hassle, but still worth in compared to the cash involved with the encores

Sometimes you have to find what round the gun likes. I shoot primarily 69gr Federal Match Grade ( because its free from the county) but my gun likes the 55gr better. I can still pop golf balls at 100yds but the group is much better with the 55gr

Being left handed is nice when someone wants to borrow a gun isn't it? ;D ;D I dont have to worry about people even asking me any more, like I would lend out a gun anyways.
