I been reading and they say the .450 marlin is the ticket on the big bores. They say it is what a 45-70 should be. Its just a newer version and they dont have to worry about people putting the hot loads in an old gun. It said a 45-70 could match its factory loads if you reloaded.

Hey MUD, isnt your '06 a handi-rifle? The one I won last night has paperwork saying you can buy extra barrels for under $80. The regular one listed a 45-70. The ultra (what mine is) listed a 450marlin.

I have 2 NEF Handi rifles. A 30-06 & a .243 youth. Check out www.hr1871.com/ for barrel info. Depending on which model number you have you can rebarrel with almost every imaginable centerfire rifle, shotgun, & even muzzleloaders. I dont think you can rebarrel for rimfires though.
