We had our annual crappie tournament at work this past week. It was a bad one for me. This year I fished in my partners boat and that was my first mistake. My second mistake was forgetting the boat paddles. We had a constent rain all day with wind bad enough the send white caps into the boat. We went to one of our normal spots and trolled brown and white jigs w/minniows 8 ft or so deep and cought our limit of 10 fish within 30 to 45 mins but the only problm was our 10 fish probly weighed a total of 4 pounds. So i decide to move to deeper water in a cove that broke the wind. Within minutes I hooked the biggest fish of the tourny a 2lb 3oz crappie. After landing him I tought we were gonna be on the fish but it was the only one we cought there so I tought I'd pick up and move again. Ray tries to start the boat and notihing.... battery is dead. No big deal we ALWAYS carry a spare and a booster .... but not this time. It was raining the day before and he took the booster inside and was charing the spare and forgot to put them in the boat and as I said before i forgot to take that paddles out of my boat. We are pretty much stuck and our cells did not have service..... so off come the cooler lids and we start paddling. luckly our shift supervisor and his son came by and towed us in. We ended up weighting in 6lbs 9oz of fish finishing 7th out of 15 people and I won a hundred bucks for biggest fish.
