I have always used spincasters, but i want to use baitcasters. I bought a cheap zebco, but it was a lemon. Im thinking about Abu Garcia 6:3:1 any suggestions? Are they any good, or should I look elsewhere? This will be for spinnerbaits, topwater and plastics.

You cant beat an Abu Garcia. The lower the poundage line you use the easier it will be to cast too.

Ya thats fine. I use 20 most of the time in mine, but its hard for most people to cast them. You have to get used to them before throwing with anything over 14.

They all are until you get used to them. And dont believe the ones that say "antibacklash" that is a crock. I have 2 of them and they suck.

abu garcia are great reels. i have a few 4600's and 5600's never had a problem with them. i use braided line, i like the power pro line its smooth and easy casting . just be sure to spray your reel down with with a water hose after each use and it doesnt hurt to use reel oil . good luck and good fising.

Another good thing about Abu Garcia is they stand behind thier stuff. I had to send one in I got used atleast 14 years ago and they fixed it for the cost of shipping.

Bro,
I'm with ya. Save yourself a lot of time and stick with the spinning reel. I have owned 3 bait rigs and I always spent more time pulling out nests than I did fishing.

I have four baitcasters, two Abu's, one Shimano and one Quatum (Zebco). I love them all but the Abu Garcia's have been with me the longest. I think the Shimano and the Abu Garcia are as good as they get. When I got my first baitcaster i spent many hours in the back yard practicing....and I still had backlashes when I went to the lake. Ten years later I have got the hang of using a baitcaster and I will never go back. I still get an ocassional backlash but I can get it unsnarled pretty quick. As far as plastic go unless I am using a Texas Rig or a Carolina rig I use a spinning reel for plastics. I have two Abu Garcia spinning reel for this application.
When you read my posts does it like I am drunk or just iliterate?
