Seneca, the same BS takes place here, only its done legally. Commercial and indian fisherman set their nets, and if they cant get out to check them, the fish all rot, and all is lost. We also have several nets each year that break loose, and continue fishing on their own. Its a crying shame. All this, and about 8 yrs ago, all commercial fishing was supposed to be switched over to trap nets, to do away with all the waste. Apparently noone wants to enforce it. I have made numerous calls to the DNR, Tribal, and commercial fisherman in the area, and all want to tell me its not "their" problem. I think its all of our problem, and it needs to be stopped.

Yes, Bucktales I do know something of the problems that you folks are having. Every now and then I’ll hear something on TV or read something on the Internet - www. michigansportsman.com - I have seen it first hand in Manitoba and Ontario, never seen it in Michigan but almost never get above Thunder Bay (Alpena) and if I’m up that way it is in the dead of winter ice fishing.
I know that the native people more or less are a nation with laws that may be a little different than your state laws, but damn, can’t they see what they are doing to them selves, the wildlife and their lively hood or do they just not give a rat’s azz. ------------ Gill nets suck
