Does any one use chum as an attractant? I have used corn mash in the past but it really does not seem to work so well.

I think the closest thing Ive ever done to chumming is throwing handfulls of corn over an area to get the carp feeding when we decide to go carp fishing. Carp are such smart and spooky fish, sometimes thats the only way to get them in a frenzy. As far as catfish go, I usually just scout out sections of a lake or river the weekend before I fish. I mark the trees near the spot with neon orange paint so I can find them in the dark, and then set up camp at dusk and try my luck. Although it strange. I caught most of my biggest flatheads last year in the late afternoon. Peace, Bill

I have permission to fish a pond where there are some HUGE carp, and just wanted to feel one on the end of a fly rod once. I took a bunch of bread, tied on a white popper and chucked the chum out and cast the white fly. I managed to hook one of the carp, but I may as well have hooked into a 757....it never stopped, never slowed down...luckily, I guess it got wrapped around a stump before it took all of my $60 line! That was a fun 5 minute fight!

flyfisher....I bet that was one heck of a fight on fly gear! I have this Abu Garcia spinning reel I use for carp and channel cat fishing, I put it on this Eagle Claw rod I snagged near a logjam on one of the Great Miami River watersheds near here, I guess that guy should have paid more attention to his poles, got some nice flatheads from there....heh..heh..heh..heck of a rod though. I couldnt imagine carp fishing with a fly outfit, I tail hooked a carp once somehow when I went to set the hook on a run in this spillway, the fish was only about 10lbs, but having it tailhooked it, it just kept digging and digging down, I like to never got that fish up. You are a brave man...and obviously one who likes a good fight.. You gonna try it again? Bill

I think the best chum we've used is dog food cans with holes punched in them and then thrown around the dock. If you dump a couple cans in first then put the cans out with holes in them it will keep catfish around for a round a week. Use the chunks of dogfood for bait.
