Got me a big ole chicken with a beard....hee hee giggle giggle. ;D
But he's still a blessing/trophy to me.
I'm sorry to say it wasn't with my bow because I switched areas and the new area was waaaaay to open with high winds predicted so I didn't even want to bother tryin'.
I slept my three hours before the hunt....hate workin' the night before...got out there bright and early because I knew other people would be in the area and i wanted to make sure everyone knew where i was at so hopefully they'd stay a good distance away. Anyway I got all set up and waited for daylight. Daylight came and nothing. No gobblin' nothin'. I was startin' to do the head bob about 0830 so I in order to wake up I called a couple times and put my head down for a second. I lifted my head up slowly and looked to my right and saw a turkey headin' right for my decoy. Game on baby!! I only saw a couple inches of beard but knew he was a male bird and that he was going down if I saw his head again. He proceeded to mount my decoy. I think the head but not quite sure...lol.
There were a clump of trees blockin' so I really couldn't see the whole thing. My gun was leanin' next to me on the tree. I knew I had to get it and I did....all senses shut down and I moved FAST in order to be able to get my gun up to shootin' position. I can't believe he didn't see me. Next thing I see is a head pop out from behind the tree and slipped back. I decided next time he does that I'm shootin' and I did....lol.
He flopped for a lil bit. Taking my decoy out and covering it in blood in the process. I went over to it with huntnma on the phone and bout died thinkin' it was hen. I hate when I do that...lol. Then I saw his beard....lol.
Turned out he was only 10 1/2lbs. Tall and skinny with a 4 and a 1/4in. beard...the spurs were just startin' to turn from a knub to a point.
Some of y'all might think that I should passed on him and usually I probably would have but this season has been rough. He was the first bird i've seen and I've only heard one other gobblin'. This one came in totally silent. All the hunts out at Toso have been really slow. Even most of the waaaay avid turkey hunters haven't seen anything. There's only two days left for me before my season is over. I may try to get out next weekend which is the last but most likely will have to work in order to get ready for our new upgraded system to go live.
Today my bird was the only taken...to the best of my knowledge.
I'll be headin' out tomorrow and Sunday too. Bringing my bow and gun tomorrow but haven't decided what to do on Sunday yet.
It'll probably be after this weekend before I get someone to post pics.
i'd like to add that alllll the pellets hit the head...not one hit the neck at all...that was a first for me....and he's got the most pathetic tail (fan) you've ever seen. It got a lil tore up while killin' the decoy as he was going down.
